The Sons of the Dragon Club
The Sons of the Dragon Club is the Beta Foundation’s annual giving program exclusively for pledging or initiated undergraduates. The Club is a unique way for undergraduates to learn about the Foundation and join other Betas and friends providing charitable gifts that fund the leadership programs and resources of the Men of Principle initiative. The deadline to join the Club is April 1 each year.
How Do I Join The Club?
Any undergraduate who gives $18.39 or more to the Beta Foundation is a member of the Club for the year. Gifts can be made online, at a Beta event or through the mail at: Beta Theta Pi Foundation, PO Box 6277, Oxford, OH 45056.
What Recognition Is Available to Students Who Join in 2018?
Individual Recognition – All undergraduates who join with their gift of $18.39 or more by April 1 will receive their choice of the 2018 Sons of the Dragon Club custom dress socks. Betas who double their gift to $36.78 or more will receive both sock designs. Socks will be given immediately to those who join the Club at Keystone, but all other socks will be shipped to chapters in April.
Senior Recognition – Along with receiving the official socks for joining the Club, graduating seniors are also eligible to receive both the executive Beta padfolio and silver money clip with the Fraternity’s logo embossed/engraved on each. To qualify for these items, seniors must commit to joining the Auto-Kai Club for alumni which includes recurring monthly contributions of $8 or more to the Beta Leadership Fund beginning on August 8, 2018 – Founders’ Day. This senior incentive is designed to recognize Sons of the Dragon Club members who become BLF donors as alumni.
Chapter Recognition – Chapters reaching 100% participation or 79+ Club members (Beta’s average chapter size) will receive a Skype/Facetime interview with a “Beta Great.” These “Beta Greats” include two former U.S. Ambassadors, former governor of North Carolina, a former 37-year senator and the first African-American initiated into Beta Theta Pi. Chapters that show the most support for the Club will also be recognized at the 179th General Convention in Norfolk, Virginia, in August.
How Do I Know My Gift Makes A Difference?
Gifts to the Beta Foundation are given right back to Beta undergraduates in the form of leadership program sponsorships, Men of Principle Scholarships for recruitment and tuition-based Merit Scholarships. No other fraternity foundation grants more to its chapters than the Beta Foundation, and our fundraising efficiency leads the fraternal world ($0.90 of every dollar spent by the Beta Foundation last year went directly to undergraduate scholarships and programs.) In simple terms, the $45,405 raised by the members of the 2017 Sons of the Dragon Club provided the funding for 50 students to attend the Wooden Institute or 20 executive committees to attend Keystone ($285 per person). Although your gift of $18.39 may seem small, you are joining thousands of your peers in collectively making a significant impact in the lives of your chapter brothers.
