John and Nellie Wooden
John and Nellie Wooden Institute for Men of Principle
The award-winning John and Nellie Wooden Institute for Men of Principle is an incredible opportunity for initiated members that focuses on the ritual of Beta Theta Pi and becoming a better leader. The Wooden Institute was endowed and named by Carol and James A. Collins, UCLA ’50, in honor of legendary coach John R. Wooden, Purdue ’32, and his beloved wife, Nellie.
Wooden Institute Highlights
The Wooden Institute allows Betas to interact with brothers and Friends of Beta from across North America. Participants share ideas, dissect the Fraternity ritual, partake in challenging activities that focus on leadership skills, learn more about the history of Beta Theta Pi and reflect on the Fraternity’s heritage. Most importantly, participants enjoy camaraderie and build new connections with other initiated Betas in the Fraternity’s birthplace of Oxford, Ohio.
“Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.” – John Wooden, Purdue ’32
Essential Information
The Men of Principle initiative is a deep inner philosophy that demanded integrity from every chapter and all members of the Fraternity. To give a new voice to the enduring values of the Fraternity, the award-winning Institute for Men of Principle was born in 1999.
