Suppose you are over the age of 70½ and have an individual retirement account. In that case, a qualified charitable distribution to the Beta Foundation may provide the most significant tax savings of any charitable contribution. While you are eligible to make a QCD beginning at age 70½, when you turn 73 you must take a required minimum distribution* from your IRA. A QCD counts towards that RMD.
To make a QCD, direct your IRA administrator to send a check from your account to the Beta Theta Pi Foundation using the transfer instructions below. To be tax-free, the donation must be transferred directly to the Beta Theta Pi Foundation. Making a gift to the Foundation after taking the RMD forfeits the double tax benefit through this method of giving.
*Please consult with your own legal and financial advisors for professional tax advice.
