Compton concludes six years as a Beta Theta Pi Foundation Board member this year. Most recently, he was chairman of the nomination committee and has devoted much of his time to loan and grant committee work. He is a former chapter counselor and district chief as well. Considered the Fraternity’s most loyal Convention attendee, this Carmel, Ind., native has been present at 47 Conventions. Compton was a longtime friend of the late Dr. Seth R. Brooks, St. Lawrence ’22, distinguished president and general secretary of the Fraternity. At Conventions, it was often said, “If you look for Meid, you’ll find Seth.” A realtor by trade, Compton served as a medical‐surgical assistant with a MASH unit in New Guinea during World War II. In 1990, he volunteered to transport ambulances to Guatemala. Three years later boarded a plane as a point man for medical teams bound for Somalia as part of the Somalia Relief and Rehabilitation organization.
